Role:

OL/MCM is currently working on three main themes:

  • The European Week of Media and Minorities, an annual event bringing together producers and audiences to promote cultural diversity in the media. Since 2004, a wide range of events has been taking place in the same week in dozen of countries to promote the public dialogue about the representation of minority groups and to empower minority audiences.
  • The European Centre of Information and Expertise on Media, Diversity and Society to serve as a helpdesk for media and minority organisations and facilitate European project development.
  • A Diversity Chart on which the European Public Broadcasters will commit.

Online/More Colour in the Media is also involved in several transnational projects:

  • Co-ordination of three European partnerships of national project partnerships funded by the EU Equal budget line.

Tuning into Diversity 2004: a major European Conference on Media and Minorities

In the framework of the European EquaMedia partnership, Online/More Colour in the Media and the Dutch NGO Mira Media organised eleven transnational round tables in 2003 and 2004 with a large number of stakeholders in the European media industry. On the basis of these round tables, a "Toolkit" for future developments was drafted for use by change agents in the media sector. The process culminated with a September 2004 European conference in the Netherlands, which brought together over 200 representatives of the different media industry sectors from across Europe and beyond: Tuning in to Diversity 2004.
